Devro is the largest manufacturer of edible sausage casings, made from collagen. The company has had a turbulent time over the last four years.  Its  catalogue  of problems, which included a loss-making subsidiary and two major food crises (BSE and Foot-And-Mouth) would have sunk lesser companies. However, that loss-maker, Teepak, was sold last year and  latest results, announced on 13 March, indicate that prospects are much more encouraging for the current year. Devro has built up analmost impregnable position in manufacturing collagen casings, with a global market share of over 50% -  three times the size ofits largest competitor.  Its biggest region is Europe, whichgenerated 55% of the £ ...
