Peter Hambro Mining - Huge upgrade in gold reserves

The shares surged 26p to 181p after Peter Hambro announced that estimates of gold reserves at its second mine at Pioneer had been substantially upgraded from 3.6m to 9.4m ounces. The followingday,  the group placed 9.6m new shares at 175p to raise £16.8mbefore expenses.  This will  fund the £3.6m cash consideration of the £18m acquisition of a gold mine at Tokur, in Russia which has an estimated 8.1m ounce deposit.  A further £9m of the proceeds will finance a proposed joint venture project in Magadan (announced in February 2003).
