Our main recommendation in February to buy shares in international shipbroker, Clarksons, "on a two day close above 725p" went live almost immediately and the shares have subsequently spiked to a new high of 985p on news that its final results beat analysts expectations. For the year ended 31 December, pretax profit rose 67% to £20.2m on turnover, which is derived primarily in US$, rising 49% to £87.4m. This gave a 72% increase in earnings to 83.8p, which beat Evolution Securities' forecast of 74p but would have been even higher but for the weakness in the US$ against £Sterling, which fell from an average of US$1.65 in 2003 to US$ 1.84.
