While most firms are hunkering down to survive the recession one company that is unashamedly upbeat is PZ Cussons, the owner of several well-known personal care brands such as Imperial Leather and Cussons itself. This reflects the fact that it has established very strong market positions both in the UK and in Nigeria; the latter’s economy has expanded quickly on the back of high oil revenues, fuelling a sustained boom in consumer household spending. This has led to a terrific sequence of growth in which operating profit has soared from £22m to £76.5m in the past nine years.
