There's an old City saying that small cap shares only enjoy their place in the sunshine once but Volex, which makes power cords and cable assemblies, is shaping up to be the exception to this rule. First time out, the shares roared from £4 to nearly £21 early in 2000 as buoyant telecom markets made for a surge in its products, many of which were used in the assembly of base stations, which sprung up to service the growth of mobile communications in the dot-com boom.
