Record palm oil prices helped New Britain beat forecasts with pretax profit up 48% to US$126m against expectations of US$115m for the year to 31 December. Underlying eps rose 44% to 60.2 cents. Cash generation was also strong with EBITDA increasing 57% to US$179.4m. Borrowings increased from US$56.8m to US$281m, primarily reflecting the transformational US$175m acquisition of KPOL (formerly CTP), while the group has since refinanced this, entering into a five-year facility of US$240m with an Asian bank. Gearing (net debt to equity) is a comfortable 39%.During the year, the group increased production of crude palm oil (CPO) by 32% to 479,000 tonnes, including an eight-month contribution of 107,000 tonnes from KPOL.
