Poundland - Poundland Strong debut by discount retailer

It used to be said that house prices were the dominant topic of conversation during dinner parties but in todayâ€™s age of austerity the subject on everyoneâ€™s lips is finding new ways to save money and this may explain why shares in Poundland, which floated on the Full List at 300p on 12 March, have quickly soared to a 27% premium. The strong debut from the discount retailer, which saw private equity owner Warburg Pincus reduce its stake to 30%, reflects an excellent record in which turnover increased from Â£641m to Â£880m and EBITDA from Â£31.1m to Â£45.5m in the two years to end March 2013, while in the nine months to 29 December EBITDA had already reached Â£45.2m.
