Tullow Oil is an old-fashioned oil explorer with a remarkable knack for making huge discoveries in countries that have been abandoned by the major oil companies because the geological and political risks were deemed too high. Its “hit” rate with the drill bit is considered amongst the best in the industry while management have also shown a sound eye for strategic acquisitions.Since 2000 its reserves and resources have soared from 79m to an amazing 1,300m barrels while production has grown from 24,000 to 73,400 barrels oil equivalent per day (boepd).
