Business events group Tarsus tends to have bigger profits in “odd” number years because that is when its larger biennial exhibitions are held, so it’s best to view results against two years prior. Therefore results for 2018 (an “off” year for biennials) were marvellous because revenues rose 46% to almost £100m against 2016 with like-for-like sales also up 9%. Meanwhile, pretax profit and eps rose 45% and 15%, respectively, to £27.9m and 17.5p.There were six acquisitions in the year, the largest at US$18m for the remaining 50% it didn’t own in a Mexican joint venture, but strong cash flow meant net debt still fell £6m to £78.8m.
