The shares fell sharply reflecting the fact that few people are going to want to go to a cinema while Covid-19 is present. Cineworld’s results did little to assuage fears with revenues down 6% to US$4,370m. US Box office revenues were down 12.7% while UK box office revenues were down 6.3%. Both these falls are blamed by management on tough comparatives the year before when there was a stronger slate of films. Retail revenue fell 6.4% to US$954m while other income rose 5.6% to US$396m. Adjusted EBITDA was US$1,033m, up 0.8%, helped by integration benefits from Regal exceeding initial expectations with run rate synergies increasing from US$100m to US$190m.
