Much has been said about China’s role as an insatiable consumer, driving key commodity prices to record highs but the other side of this coin is that China also possesses valuable natural resources and not many people know that it is the fourth largest gold producer in the World. Until recently, political barriers meant that the exploitation of these resources were strictly off limits to Western miners but one unlikely micro-cap, Central China Gold (market value: £12m), has stolen a march on its larger rivals by acquiring a portfolio of five joint ventures, one of which holds resources of 1m ounces of gold.
