The rising burden of health and safety in work legislation and in particular the self explanatory “Working at Height” directive are important factors behind the resurgence of Lavendon, which hires out so-called powered access equipment (such as the scissor lift, which provides vertical lift or the boom lift, which provides sideways out reach). The products, known colloquially as flying carpets, are simply powered lifts which have to some extent done for ladders and scaffolding what the motor car did to the horse and cart.
