Goodwin, which makes valves for the oil & gas and process industries, is living proof that even unglamorous firms can make superb returns for shareholders. The family run firm, which has no financial public relations, analyst coverage or forecasts out in the market, is happy for its numbers to do the talking and this is why. In the four financial years to 30 April 2008, turnover has increased from £34m to nearly £81m, while pretax profit has risen from £2.8m to £9.8m.
