Greene King has once again proved why it is regarded as the best-run pubs operator in the quoted sector with solid results for the year to 3 May. In spite of tough trading conditions pretax profit only declined 15% to £118.5m (ahead of its own forecast of £115m set at the time of the rights issue) on turnover that rose 1.3% to £954.6m. Eps was 53.4p. Greene King retail, its managed pubs division, saw a 7.6% decline in operating profit to £105.6m on turnover virtually unchanged at £569.5m, as enhanced value-for-money deals across liquor and food helped like-for-like sales rise 1.7% but at the expense of operating margins, which fell from 20.1% to 18.5%.The story was similar in its pub partners s ...
