Shares in Majestic Wine have recovered well since we suggested holding them for recovery in last December's update, with the price rising from 139p to hit 215p at one point. Although results for the year to 30 March showed underlying pretax profit before exceptional items falling 22% to £12.7m on turnover that rose 2% to £201.8m, the expectation is that this represents the low point in the cycle as like-for-like sales for the 10 weeks to 8 June were up 2%.While sales to private customers held up relatively well, helped by a 6% rise in the average price of a bottle of wine to £6.35, last year's results reflect a torrid second half with sales of champagne to corporate customers getting particularly hammered ...
