Murgitroyd - Remarkable 14 - year growth record for patent attorney firm

Last month we looked at how patent translation firm RWS, 490p, had chiselled out a remarkable four-fold surge in its share price so perhaps the time is right to look at another firm operating in a similar space, Murgitroyd, the UK's only quoted firm of patent and trade mark attorneys. Like RWS, AIM-listed Murgitroyd is benefiting from the long-term growth in its markets with applications for trademarks and patents in 2011 rising 7% and 3% respectively, in each case smashing the previous record. Murgitroyd has grabbed this opportunity with both hands with its sales increasing from a paltry Â£8.1m in 1998 to Â£33.2m last year, while pretax profit has soared ten-fold from Â£370,000 to a whopping Â£4m.
