Bonmarche's first maiden results as a listed company were slightly ahead of forecast. The ladieswear retailer, which targets female customers over the age of 50, increased revenues and pretax profit 12% and 85% respectively to£164.3m and £11.2m. This was helped by the “right sizing†of its estate (pruning the loss-making legacy outlets) as well as increasing market share. Key to its success is its first price, right price policy, which prevents the need for too many sales, while it is also benefiting from new refit concepts and improved product mix for dresses, tops and accessories.
