An encouraging start for Whitbread with first quarter like-for-like sales up 2.9% including 4.7% at its Premier Inns hotel chain, 0.7% in Restaurants and 1.1% for Costa coffee. The highlight was Premier Inn where like-for-like revenue per available room (RevPAR) increased by 2.9% (+3.8% in London and 2.9% in the Regions). It’s on track to open around 4,200 hotel rooms this year, while at Costa it will add 230-250 coffee shops.Separately, Whitbread has completed the sale and leaseback of a hotel (247 rooms) in Shoreditch for £51m, representing a yield of just under 4% as part of a target to generate £100m-£150m total proceeds this year.Eps is forecast to grow from 247p to 257p in the year to next Februa ...
