Skimming through the Labour Party manifesto it seems one of its priorities is to “go net positive” on the building of new social rented homes “within the very early years of the next parliament” after nearly three times more social homes were sold off or demolished than were built last year. Labour will “strengthen planning obligations” to ensure a higher proportion of social homes within new developments being built and support councils and housing associations to build their capacity and “make a greater contribution to affordable housing supply.” The Manifesto also reiterates Labour’s commitment to a “new generation of new towns” inspired by the 1945 post war Government with authorities to be given new planning powers along with “freed ...
