The UK's largest independent mobile phone retailer, Carphone Warehouse, was one of the new issues that floated at the tail-end of the last boom.  At one point the shares surged to a high of 223p, implying an exotic PE of over 65. But gravity plus the news that Carphone had dabbled in some ultimately worthless wireless investments,subsequently combined to send the shares to a low of 50p in March.   But prospects are now looking much brighter than for some time, while investors' appetites have been whetted by  a brand new opportunity in the residential fixed line market through thelaunch of talktalk, which provides a low cost alternative to BT.
