Shares in van rental group, Northgate, stand 159p ahead of our 399p recommendation price after at one point spiking to  595p. Ina pre-close statement ahead of their interim results, the group announced that trading has returned to more normal levels, envisaged inits new three year plan, with a resumption of fleet growth and utilisation levels maintained at 90%.  This follows a tricky summer period, when competitive pricing from contract hire specialists led to customers returning over 1,000 vehicles.  Meanwhile, Northgate's 40%-owned Spanish van rental group, Fualsa, has traded slightly ahead of expectations and looks more and more like a shrewd acquisition.
