Amazing as it might seem Dunelm, which specialises in selling homewares through out-of-town superstores, is a retailer whose latest trading update beat expectations, leading to the unusual sight of brokers actually upgrading their forecasts. The company was founded in 1979 as a small market trader selling curtains in Leicester and from these humble beginnings has since developed a chain of 91 stores mainly in the Midlands and North-West, of which 78 are superstores and the balance high street outlets.
