The pub sector has traditionally been seen as one of the most defensive of industries and has survived a number of scares over the years, particularly Government investigations into the alleged high charges inflicted by large pub owners on their tenants. While recent challenges, such as the ban on smoking in public places and the credit crunch have also come thick and fast, Greene King, a 200 year-old brewer and pub retailer, has proven quite resilient.
