Shares in pawnbroker H&T moved higher after it announced that trading is running well ahead of current market expectations for the year. This has mainly come about through a sharp rise in the group's gold buying volumes on the back of the high gold price. H&T recently moved to cash in on the soaring gold price through opening 56 retail mall units (RMU), which are kiosks in shopping centres where consumers can sell their unwanted gold. Whilst only open since May, the RMUs are already performing well thanks to much higher footfall than its original pawnbroking stores, largely on the back of massive growth in gold buying advertising across the industry as a whole.
