Since our last update covering its finals in August, Sports Direct's shares have hit a fresh high of 158p on 13 October before pulling back to 129p. The rise mirrors encouraging news flow including the decision by the Serious Fraud Office to discontinue its investigation into Sports Direct along with JJB Sports, with no charges being brought. The following day, on 20 October, Sports Direct announced that sales for the nine weeks ending 26 September rose 5.4% to £295m, while gross profit also increased 5.4% to £117m.
