With palm oil slipping from over US$1,000 to US$835 per tonne it might seem counter intuitive that shares in Indonesian palm oil producer MP Evans hit an all-time high of 550p early in September. The explanation is that interim results show it to be on track to hit its goal of increasing output to 500,000 tonnes by 2015.Even though those results showed a 31% reduction in profit after tax to US$15.3m that included an accounting one-off reduction of US$4.1m from its Australian cattle business, pushing it to a US$1.25m loss, reflecting a reduction in valuation of the herd, but this could be reversed next time.
