The shares rallied after utility energy consultancy Utilitywise announced final results slightly ahead with revenue increasing 41% to £69.1m and pretax profit rising 25% to £16.7m for the year ended 31 July. Most of the “beat” came from an accounting adjustment; traditionally it books 85% of the profit on a new contract upfront and makes a 15% provision for possible energy under-usage by the customer. However, while this worked in 2015 and will be used in 2016, in prior years it found it had under-provided and this has led to a write-back to the profit and loss account.Encouragingly, the UK’s customer base has increased further to 27,265 as at 30 September while in Europe it now has over 4,000 customer ...
