The take-over offer for buy-to-let (BTL) lender, Aldermore, 301p by South African firm First Rand has fired the starting gun on a potentially exciting period of bid activity for the quoted BTL sector, which is benefiting from the long-term rise in rents and capital values in UK residential property due to a chronic shortage of housing and strong tenant demand.
