Whitbread announced interim results at the top end of expectations showing revenues, profit and eps rising 7% to £1,670m, £328m and 143.7p, respectively.Premier Inn hotels impressed the most with profit rising 9% to £295m on sales that rose 6.4% to £1,050m. The UK grew profit 8% to £297m with like-for-like sales growing 3.6%. Average rate per room rose almost 3% to £65.26 offsetting occupancy, which declined 0.8% to 81.8%.Premier increased the number of rooms by 7% to 70k and encouragingly it has a strong pipeline of new openings, putting it on track to reach its 85k room target by 2020, which would increase its market share of budget hotels from 9% to 12%.
