Terrific interims from Bloomsbury with sales up 32% to £180m including +26% organic while pretax profit soared 50% to £26.6m. Leading the charge was Consumer with sales +47% to £131.3m and pretax profit increasing 91% to £21.4m, led by Sarah J Maas (+102% sales) through her new title published in Jan and its positive effect on her 15 other titles.  The rest of the backlist also performed well such as Harry Potter. Other best-sellers included Katherine Rundell’s Impossible Creatures, Cixin Liu’s Three Body Problem (buoyed by the Netflix screen adaptation, now recommissioned for an additional two seasons) and non-fiction authors  Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Poppy O’Toole.
