Wine warehouse retailer Majestic Wine produced a decent trading performance in the important nine week Christmas period ending 2 January, with like for like sales up by 5.2%. The strongest performances came in wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone, Spain, Chile and New Zealand, while champagne sales also grew strongly.Growth was helped by an increase in the average bottle price from £5.48 to £5.58. Average customer spend increased nicely from £112 to £117.Meanwhile, Majestic’s new online "Gift Solutions" offer made an encouraging start and UK online sales grew over 40% and now represent 5.5% of total sales.
