As a manufacturing firm exposed to the oil & gas and process industries Goodwin might seem an obvious candidate to put out bad news but instead its interim results revealed quite the opposite. Not only did it achieve a 56% increase in pretax profit to £6.8m from sales that rose 55% to £46.8m in the six months to 31 October but it even noted that despite the global economic environment the order books remain buoyant, with the backlog standing at over £60m. This has led the directors to expect activity to remain in line with the first half.
