Shares in speciality pharmaceutical firm, Alliance Pharma soared after it revealed that thanks to strong trading in the final few months of 2009, it now expects to report a 42% rise in turnover to £31m. Meanwhile, pretax profit before impairment charges is expected to be no less than £8.5m, which is significantly ahead of current market expectations. The strong trading reflects good performances from anti-inflammatory agent, Deltacortril; the aspirin, Nu-Seals; Buccastem for treating nausea; and Timodine, an anti-bacterial skin cream.The impairment charges relate to it pulling the plug on further investment in clinical trials for its developmental drug Isprelor, for the induction of labour, which has a book value of £2.8m.
