In spite of concerns that US and UK defence budgets may be cut following the withdrawal of troops from Iraq, shares in defence firm, Chemring have been notable outperformers in the past six months. The company is best known for its sophisticated decoys which stop enemy missiles hitting a plane or helicopter, but in recent years has made a series of acquisitions to beef up its so-called energetics division, which supplies mortars, munitions and anti-explosive devices. Full-year results for 2009, which revealed a blow-out 37% rise in eps to 211p, were also notable for three significant milestones: Chemring achieving revenues of £500m, a market cap of £1bn and underlying profit before tax of over £100m.Another land ...
