In a pre-close update covering the first six months, Hargreaves noted that trading is in line with expectations. The energy & commodities side performed strongly with profits and volumes ahead of expectations. Volumes in Europe are rising steadily while good progress has been made in the new operations in Belgium and Poland. Meanwhile, in the production division, Monckton is seeing coke markets recovering strongly and with prices rising and key new contracts secured for the second half it should slightly exceed previous expectations. The only fly in the ointment has been at Maltby, which suffered a fatality as well as inconsistent performance because of teething problems with new equipment and some geological anomalies. ...
