JD Sports, which runs a chain of more than 400 shops selling sports fashion clothing and footwear across the UK, is quickly evolving into one of the new stars of the High Street. Following a sparkling trading update, which noted a 6.6% rise in like-for-like sales over the five weeks to 2 January, brokers have upgraded their pretax profit forecast from £56m to £63.1m for the year to 31 January 2010. Meanwhile, the year starting 1 February has seen a sizeable upgrade from £58.5m to £66.1m.
