MWB has raised nearly £25m net of expenses via a placing of 91.66m new shares at 30p in order to strengthen the balance sheet, with £7.5m earmarked to buy back loan stock for cancellation and £4m to repay an inter-group loan from MWB Business Exchange. Although this placing will increase the number of shares in issue by 127%, management believe that without it there would be a serious risk of breaching borrowing covenants in the medium term, particularly if property values fall again.
