The shares have continued their remorseless climb with a new high of 2525p registered. This follows a sale and leaseback of seven Premier Inn hotels (the third such deal in three years) at an initial yield of 5.3%, which has raised £51m. Earlier Whitbread announced another cheerful update for the third quarter to 29 November. This showed total sales rising 14.4%, of which like-for-like growth was 3.3% and represents a slight acceleration over its half year figures. Again Premier Inn, with total sales growth of 12.6% (like-for-like 2.5%) and Costa Coffee (25.5% and 7.1% respectively) were the jewels, with the restaurants division putting on solid growth of 4.1% and like-for-like of 1.9%.
