It's hard to exaggerate the impact of online shopping on consumer behaviour and figures from Verdict show that from a standing start in 1998 e-commerce reached almost £30bn in 2012, which is equivalent to 13% of total UK retail sales. With improved broadband speeds and the arrival of the latest tablets and smart phones making it even easier to order over the internet, one forecaster predicts e-commerce reaching an eye-opening 22% of sales by 2016.
