Shares in UK housebuilders have bounced sharply following the re-election of the Conservatives, with Government support for Help-to-Buy schemes for first time buyers likely to continue and the headwind from Brexit now lifted. Shares in Countryside Properties, which listed at 225p early in 2016, have outperformed even this buoyant mood, spiking to a new high of 490p.The secret sauce is that Countryside has reduced its exposure to the traditional model of building private homes on its own land, a business that will always be sensitive to the waxing and waning of the economy’s fortunes.
