With the pandemic severely limiting air travel for a second year low cost airline Easyjet duly reported a loss before tax of £1,136m on sales that fell almost 52% to £1,458m. Although capacity was halved to 28.2m seats, its load factor still fell almost 15% to 72.5%. Nevertheless, Easyjet has mitigated the effects by cutting costs by £512m while increasing ancillary revenue per seat by 20% by launching new products including a cabin bag proposition (allowing one large bag in the passenger section rather than the hold). It’s also sensibly reallocated 43 aircraft to bases where they will generate higher returns.
