The bandwagon propelling shares in Majestic Wine keeps rolling relentlessly on and they are now up 87% since our main recommendation last February. Majestic has once again beaten expectations for the six months ended September, with pretax profit rising 42% to £34m on turnover up 22% to £69.1m, the like-for-like component being 10.7%.  Although gross margins fell slightly from 19.7% to 19.4% this reflected higher sales of lower margin items, such as beer and champagne, as the freakishly hot summer sucked in more thirsty customers.  Nevertheless margin growth at the operating level was up sharply from 4.8% to 5.6%, reflecting the group's relatively fixed cost base.  A major feature of Majestic's s ...
