With Big Yellow's borrowing facility not requiring refinancing until September 2013 and with much of this on variable rates, which will benefit from the recent base rate cuts, investors can afford to feel reasonably sanguine about director David Ross' sudden bombshell that he secured a large loan on his 10% stake. The timing of this announcement, which should have come in 2006, suggests Ross (famous for co-founding Carphone Warehouse) or the bank may soon have to sell this holding, whose use as collateral was for a loan to fund commercial property deals, probably made near the top of the market.
