Charter, the provider of welding products and air and gas handling equipment, has confirmed that it will achieve underlying earnings for 2008 in line with previous expectations. Its preliminary results will be announced on 27 February, while the company will also update investors in January on the actions it is taking to deal with the harsher economic outlook. The latest eps forecasts (put out by three brokers after Charter's IMS in November) range from 87.4p to 93p for this year, while for next year the range is 65.5p to 71.6p.Helped by director buying on 24 November at 250p, the shares have rallied slightly but remain very cheap.
