Shares in Greene King soared to an intra-day high of 440p after the regional brewer and pubs operator released fairly upbeat results.  For the 24 weeks to October 18, revenues increased 4.3% to £464m while pretax profit rose 2.8% to £62.4m. The additional shares arising from the rights issue caused eps to decline 17.2% to 22.6p. In the retail division (managed pubs) revenues rose 4.5% to £278.2m, helped by like-for-like sales growth of 4.6%, which was driven by strong food sales. While the group mostly stemmed cost inflation through strong cost control, overall profits were virtually unchanged at £52.1m.
