One of the most impressive aspects of low cost airline Wizz Air’s recent forecast busting results was that they came amidst the backdrop of blood-letting in the airline industry, with national flag carriers Alitalia, Air Berlin and Thomas Cook UK, joining minnows like Flybe, WOW and Monarch, in going to the wall. That followed a period of over-capacity (glut of extra planes and seats chasing finite number of passengers) but with those bankruptcies, the ongoing contraction of cash-strapped Norwegian Airlines and the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max due to safety issues (Wizz is unaffected as it only operates Airbus planes) after several safety incidents, the survivors are likely to bank the recent benefits from lower fuel prices rath ...
