At its interims, Judges said several businesses had experienced a challenging first half but that it expected a stronger second half to make up for this, based on the crystallisation and delivery of certain orders. Unfortunately, although some progress has been made and order intake year-to-date is up 4.2% versus 2023, these orders won’t now occur before the year end so it has downgraded eps guidance to 270p-300p. Demand from China is weak and other markets are difficult too. As broker Zeus says, the fundamentals of the business are sound and the balance sheet strong but the prospective PE looks high at nearly 30x given the blotted copy-book.
