The shares jumped 161p in 4 trading days after builders merchant BSS announced results in line with recently upgraded expectations. For the year ended 31 March, pretax profit before goodwill and exceptional items rose 42% to £34.5m on sales up 12.6% to £747m, while earnings rose 46% to 82.5p. BSS' largest division, BSS Domestic, which distributes domestic heating and plumbing products to contractors and secondary merchants, was the engine behind the company's growth, with its operating profit rising 32% to nearly £25m, from a near 16% rise in sales to £516m.
