One reason for the powerful performance in the shares of online sports betting and poker operator Sportingbet, is last year's acquisition of Paradise Poker, the third largest online poker company. In the light of that deal, Sportingbet's forecasts have been upgraded an incredible eight times over the past 12 months. As a result, earnings are now expected to nearly triple from 6p in the financial year ended 31st July 2004 to 17p in 2006. But another reason for the re-rating is that investors are becoming transfixed with companies that enjoy exposure to the surge in online gambling, a market which grew 25% to US$8 billion last year and which some believe could grow a further ten fold over the next ten years.
