The recent market sell-off has only caused a slight dent in the serene progress of shares in independent mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse, which have been in an impressive uptrend since the Baghdad Bounce. This is partly because Carphone has the happy knack of setting targets which it almost always beats, while a quick glance at its record since 1998, which shows turnover increasing from £180m to £3 billion and pretax profit rising from £14m to £136m, explains just why the shares have such an adoring following.
